The “Future Media & Imaging” Department of the IBBT to exhibit at the NEM Summit 2010
The NEM Initiative is pleased to announce that the the “Future Media & Imaging” (FMI) Department of the IBBT (a Flemish research institute) will be exhibiting at the 2010 NEM Summit.
The overall mission of the IBBT is the creation of highly competent human capital in different aspects of ICT through multi-disciplinary demand-driven research. IBBT carries out multi-disciplinary research for the Flemish business community and the Flemish government. This includes all technological, legal and social dimensions of the development and exploitation of broadband services.
The “Future Media & Imaging” (FMI) Department contributes to the realization of the overall IBBT mission as a Centre of Excellence for media research and applications. The targeted research challenges and application domains include: TV and multimedia entertainment; global content management; multimedia communication; media production; public safety, surveillance, and smart environments; biomedical imaging; and non-destructive testing.
The research activities of the IBBT FMI Department are devised in four research themes/unit:
- Multimedia Representation, Transmission, Visualization and Forensics;
- Image and Video Quality Improvement and Analysis;
- Metadata-based Content Adaptation & Senses for Likeable Systems;
- Multimodal (Pre)Clinical Imaging: Biomedical Image & Signal Processing and Analysis.
The FMI Department unites 150 researchers from five different research groups linked to three Flemish universities. The research activities are coordinated by four Principal Investigators who report to the Technical Board. The FMI Department also has a Steering Committee and a Director (Prof. Rik Van de Walle).
